Cold Brew Coffee

Time: 5 Min
Difficulty: Easy
Coffee Based

Cold brew is coffee made with ground coffee beans steeped in cold water that give the beverage its distinctive rich velvety taste which makes it absolutely the perfect refreshment for those long summer days when regular coffees are too hot to handle.

Ingredients for 1 serving

• Coarse ground beans (100 g/10 tablespoons)
• Cold filtered water (1l / 34 ounces)

Notes on the coffee beans:
Don’t underestimate the importance of using the finest coffee beans you have if you want a high-quality cold brew.

Method

Step 1
Ground your coffee beans so that they have a texture similar to breadcrumbs using a De’Longhi grinder

Step 2
Steep the ground coffee beans in water for about 12-24 hours. The longer you leave them, the stronger the final taste

Step 3
Dilute the concentrated coffee essence with water and served chilled

Step 4
Enjoy the cold caffeine freshness

Did you know

• Cold brew coffee has become popular in the past 10 years or so but has been around for many centuries.

• According to some sources, the first evidence of cold brew coffee comes from Japan during the 1600s. However, other records point that cold brew coffee may have originated from the traveling Dutch traders who used it during their cruises for a way to preserve coffee and they spread their tradition to the Japanese.

• Cold brew coffee is prepared by steeping coffee grounds in room temperature or cold water for an extended period of time, resulting in a delicious beverage that is completely different than what you would get by simply icing a hot brewed coffee. The lack of heat prevents many of the solubles in the coffee from completely dissolving, resulting in a more mellow and sweet coffee with rich velvety taste, lower acidity, enhanced smoothness, nice fruity and floral aromas and generally little to no bitter component.
